What is Product Carbon Footprint (PCF)?
A Product Carbon Footprint (PCF) quantifies the climate impact of a single product or service unit, expressed in kgCO₂e per unit. It applies the principles of Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) focused specifically on greenhouse gas emissions. Standards governing PCF include ISO 14067 (Carbon footprint of products), the GHG Protocol Product Standard, and PAS 2050.
PCFs are increasingly demanded by customers, retailers, and regulators. The EU’s proposed Green Claims Directive and Product Environmental Footprint (PEF) initiative will require substantiated product-level environmental claims.
