GRI Standards

GRI Standards are the world’s most widely used voluntary sustainability reporting framework, providing a comprehensive set of disclosures for economic, environmental, and social topics.

What is GRI Standards?

The Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) Standards are modular, interrelated standards that allow organisations to report on their sustainability impacts. GRI 305 (Emissions) specifically covers greenhouse gas disclosures including Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions, emission intensities, and reduction initiatives. GRI Standards are used by over 10,000 organisations globally and are designed for multi-stakeholder audiences. EFRAG and GRI collaborated to ensure high interoperability between ESRS and GRI.

Practical Examples

1

A multinational company publishes its sustainability report using GRI Standards, applying GRI 305 for emissions and GRI 302 for energy.

2

A UK manufacturer uses GRI as its primary voluntary disclosure framework, cross-referencing GRI 305 disclosures with its mandatory SECR report.
