What is Corporate Net-Zero Standard?
Published in October 2021, the SBTi’s Corporate Net-Zero Standard is the most rigorous framework for corporate net zero target-setting. It requires near-term science-based targets (5–10 year horizon, aligned with 1.5°C), long-term science-based targets (reducing emissions by at least 90% by no later than 2050), and neutralisation of residual emissions through permanent carbon removals. The standard specifically prohibits relying on offsets for reaching net zero.

A company sets SBTi net zero targets: a near-term target of 42% absolute Scope 1 and 2 reduction by 2030, and a long-term target of 90% total reduction by 2050.
